The 2026 BCRA Cave & Karst Science Symposium and AGM will take place on Saturday 17 October 2026.
It will be hosted by Dr Bethany Fox at the School of Science, Engineering and Environment, University of Salford. It will be take place in room 0.11 of the Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) building on the Peel Park Campus.
Abstracts are welcome for posters or oral presentations on any topic of cave or karst-based research. These should be submitted by email no later than 19 August, 2026, to the Symposium organiser (see below). Please include all authors with their affiliations, an email address for the primary author, and an abstract of up to 500 words (main text and references only).
This will be a live event but, hopefully, we will also be able to stream it. For this annual event, information (including a timetable, abstracts, and directions to the venue) is usually published a few weeks beforehand. Last-minute info will be posted to our Facebook page. You can also register to be placed on the event's mailing list (see below), which is probably the best way for you to stay informed.
Following the symposium, an informal evening meal will be arranged in Manchester City Centre for those who are interested.

For 2026 there is an
event
registration form
. Registering will put you on the mailing list for further information, as well as
allowing you to express your interest in the Saturday evening dinner and the Sunday
field trip. The form does not commit you to attending the event, it just helps to give us a
sense of roughly how many to expect. Registration is also available on the day. A small donation
is requested to cover refreshments.
Our AGM will also take place on Saturday 17 October 2026 immediately prior to the
lunch break. See our AGM
page for further information.
The day after the annual symposium, we usually organise a field meeting in the local area or a workshop/classroom event.
For 2026 there will be a field trip to the Manifold Valley area of the Peak District. It will be led by Andy Farrant and John Gunn. For details of the field trip, please contact John Gunn (see Enquiries, above) or sign up using the event registration form (see above).
This meeting will be streamed via Zoom. You are advised to download and install the Zoom
program in advance, from Zoom
Client for Meetings
. If you do not do this in advance you will be prompted to do it
when you join a meeting, and you could have to spend a few minutes installing it and working out
how to use it. It is also possible to attend a Zoom meeting via a web browser, but this is not
recommended unless you cannot get Zoom to install properly.
