BCRA Science Symposium, Saturday 17 October 2026

The 2026 BCRA Cave & Karst Science Symposium and AGM will take place on Saturday 17 October 2026.

It will be hosted by Dr Bethany Fox at the School of Science, Engineering and Environment, University of Salford. It will be take place in room 0.11 of the Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) building on the Peel Park Campus.

Abstracts are welcome for posters or oral presentations on any topic of cave or karst-based research. These should be submitted by email no later than 19 August, 2026, to the Symposium organiser (see below). Please include all authors with their affiliations, an email address for the primary author, and an abstract of up to 500 words (main text and references only).

This will be a live event but, hopefully, we will also be able to stream it. For this annual event, information (including a timetable, abstracts, and directions to the venue) is usually published a few weeks beforehand. Last-minute info will be posted to our Facebook page. You can also register to be placed on the event's mailing list (see below), which is probably the best way for you to stay informed.

Following the symposium, an informal evening meal will be arranged in Manchester City Centre for those who are interested.

Event Registration

For 2026 there is an event registration form. Registering will put you on the mailing list for further information, as well as allowing you to express your interest in the Saturday evening dinner and the Sunday field trip. The form does not commit you to attending the event, it just helps to give us a sense of roughly how many to expect. Registration is also available on the day. A small donation is requested to cover refreshments.

Annual General Meeting

Our AGM will also take place on Saturday 17 October 2026 immediately prior to the lunch break. See our AGM page for further information.

Enquiries

Sunday Field Trips

The day after the annual symposium, we usually organise a field meeting in the local area or a workshop/classroom event.

For 2026 there will be a field trip to the Manifold Valley area of the Peak District. It will be led by Andy Farrant and John Gunn. For details of the field trip, please contact John Gunn (see Enquiries, above) or sign up using the event registration form (see above).

Joining the Meeting Online

This meeting will be streamed via Zoom. You are advised to download and install the Zoom program in advance, from Zoom Client for Meetings. If you do not do this in advance you will be prompted to do it when you join a meeting, and you could have to spend a few minutes installing it and working out how to use it. It is also possible to attend a Zoom meeting via a web browser, but this is not recommended unless you cannot get Zoom to install properly.

Join the BCRA Science Symposium and AGM on Saturday 17 October 2026

The Zoom link should be available on the day of the event. If not, please check our Facebook page for any last-minute announcements or instructions.

You can test your Zoom connection prior to the meetings

  1. If you try to join the meeting before the host enables it, you could be left "in limbo". Therefore, if your computer has not connected by, say, five minutes before the scheduled start time, please log out and log back in again.
  2. If you cannot log in at all, please check our Facebook page where we will post any last-minute messages concerning, for example, any technical problems that we are having.
  3. Please note that this event will not be recorded. You can only watch it live, via Zoom. The reasons for not recording the Science Symposium are that a) it can be too time-consuming and too difficult to obtain all the necessary copyright clearances; and b) some content may be subject to embargoes or other academic constraints. If you are interested in obtaining the content of a particular talk you should contact the speaker privately.

Symposium Abstracts and Programme

The Event Timetable and Abstracts for the 2026 event will be available a few weeks before the meeting.
